Toppenish, WA — June 5, 2026

The city of Toppenish wants to share an update with the community regarding the Toppenish pool. As anticipated, the pool will not open for the 2026 summer season.

“We know how much the pool means to families, especially in the summer,” said Toppenish Mayor Elpidia Saavedra. “Unfortunately, because of ongoing budget challenges, similar to those facing other cities, we do not have the funding needed to open the pool in 2026.” In recent years of operation, annual costs reached approximately $250,000, driven in part by increasing maintenance needs.

Last year, the City of Toppenish offered to partner with any group interested in and capable of operating the pool through a lease agreement; however, the pool remained closed. The City remains hopeful that the pool can reopen in the future and will continue exploring responsible options that minimize financial impact on residents.

While the pool will remain closed this year, the city is already looking ahead. The City of Toppenish and Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic are committed to continuing the conversations and exploring creative solutions that could make reopening the pool in 2027 possible.

“There will be many players that will need to work together so that it can open next year,” said Christy Trotter, CEO of Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic.

Reopening the pool will take collaboration, and the city will continue working toward solutions that could make that possible in 2027.
